Geotechnical Sector in India Witnesses 20 Percent Growth Over the Last Year
Bangalore, Karnataka, India, Wednesday, October 06, 2010 -- (Business Wire India) -- Today, India's construction sector is experiencing growth of over 30 percent annually - driven by considerable investments by both the government and the private sector in infrastructure development. India has managed to achieve significant improvement in the piling and deep foundation techniques used inits structures in the last decade. Despite an estimated growth rate of 20 -25% year on year in the use of piling and deep foundations, findings have shown that the industry is constrained due to the presence of very few piling contractors and geotechnical solution providers in the country. The geotechnical industry also faces a huge challenge in technical expertise and skill to use the latest solutions in piling & deep foundations.
One of the most significant applications of piling and deep foundations is in the recently built landmark project, Bandra - Worli sea link (BWSL) in Mumbai, constructed over the Arabian Sea to connect the islands and suburbs of Mumbai. The foundations for the BWSL project consists of 2000-mm diameter piles numbering 120 for the cable-stayed bridges and 1500-mm diameter piles numbering 484 for the approach bridges. This highly complex project would be showcased through a case study at IQPC's Piling & Deep Foundations India conference at the Hyatt Regency in Mumbai from 25 - 27 October 2010. This case study would be presenteed by Col. Satish Diwanji, Project Manager of BWSL.
IQPC (International Quality and Productivity Center), a premier event services company will bring together experts from the geotechnical industry and academics to discuss the latest trends, techniques and technologies to overcome the challenges faced in the field of geotechnology. The event will witness top piling contractors and leading piling equipment manufactures converging on a common platform to contribute towards the dialogue and offer solutions to tackle challenges plaguing the industry.
Piling & Deep Foundations India is sponsored by some of the biggest names in the field of piling equipments and building materials like Soilmec, Liebherr, Bauer Maschinen, Arcelor Mittal, Casagrande, Bruce, Junttan, BSP and Atlas Copco.
