Students of Chennais Amirta Emerge Winners of 'India Skills 2016' Culinary Competition

Praveen Kumar.C and Rajathi.T of Chennais Amirta International Institute of Hotel Management and Paul Titus.Y of Institute of Hotel Management – Chennai, have emerged winners under Food & Beverage Service, Pastry and Cooking categories, respectively, in South Zone’s culinary competition, organized by NSDC (National Skill Development Corporation under the Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship), CII (Confederation of Indian industry), and THSC (Tourism & Hospitality Skill Council) recently at Chennais Amirta college campus.

 
The two-day culinary show was part of Nation's largest skill competition `India Skills 2016,’ showcasing talents of the country across diverse fields. The winners will represent the state in the National Competition to be held mid-July, a qualifying event to the World Skills competition at Abu Dhabi in October 2017.

The contest witnessed participation of young talents from the hospitality and hotel management institutes of Andhra Pradesh, Kerala and Tamil Nadu. About 200 students took part in the event and displayed their skills across Food & Beverage Service, Pastry and Cooking segments.
 
Chef Vivek Sagar, Head - Development, THSC and Ms. Monika Narang, Executive Assistant to CEO, THSC, participated as Heads of the South Zone competition. Ten Juries from star hotels including GRT, Trident, French loaf, and YUM Restaurant India and from Asan Memorial College adjudged the winners. Mr. Leoprasath, Dean Academics, Chennais Amirta, was the coordinator of the event at the campus.

This exposure will instill the confidence and help students face the challenges in the National and International arena,” said Mr. R. Boominathan, CEO of the institute.
