In Memory of Journalist, D-Mart Square, Hiranandani Gardens, Powai Renamed 'J. Dey Chowk'

Mumbai, Maharashtra, India

Mumbai’s residents paid homage to the memory of the reporter J. Dey, who was gunned down in 2011. This was done by renaming the D-Mart Square (Chowk) at Hiranandani Gardens, Powai, in his memory, as ‘J. Dey Chowk’. Niranjan Hiranandani, MD, Hiranandani Communities said this re-naming was a fitting tribute to the reporter, who incidentally, had been gunned down near the square in 2011. “The city owes this to the brave person, who maintained high standards of journalism throughout his career,” said Niranjan Hiranandani.

The solemn ceremony was presided over by Mumbai Mayor Snehal Ambekar, who unveiled a plaque marking the new name for the square. The ceremony was followed by a memorial meeting at Fern Hall, next to the Chowk.

Mumbai Press Club was instrumental in getting the permissions from the MCGM after pursuing the proposal for over a year, and Niranjan Hiranandani expressed his appreciation for the follow-up which had been done by the Mumbai Press Club.

Niranjan Hiranandani is Founder & MD, Hiranandani Group. His recent initiative is Hiranandani Communities. He is the Founder and First President (Maharashtra), National Real Estate Development Council (NAREDCO), which works under the aegis of Ministry of Housing & Urban Poverty Alleviation, Government of India.
