Reacting on being invited and what he is going to talk, Chakravarthi described this opportunity to address international packaging community as recognition for pharmaceutical packaging in India.

Chakravarthi added that a good packaging should be cost-efficient, provide value to generate revenue, should have a good user interface and of course should be lean on resources, recoverable and prevent its contents from being spoilt.

Speaking about what a packaging can do to pharma products, he said a right packaging is required to be designed around the product or drug in order to achieve sales targets, create brand awareness, improve patient compliance, defeat counterfeiting and make the packaging interesting so as to engage patients.

Adding further Chakravarthi said about the evolution of Packaging in pharmaceuticals, that the current trend is the rise of tamper proof, child resistant and senior friendly packaging and it is the order of the day.

Packaging makes or breaks the pharma product because what makes the final contact with patient and drug is packaging and not the physician. In pharmaceuticals -  packaging actually ensures drug quality and freshness, provides tamper identification, arrests spurious drugs, keeps check on adulteration, a vehicle for product description, helps meet statutory regulations, source for brand building , offers traceability, aid for storage / productivity / distribution, helps market promotion, create convenience (better access) to the patient & so on, Chakravarthi informed.
