The British Council is bringing its second edition of the ‘UK-India Career Summit’ to Mumbai in partnership with FLEXI Careers India on Wednesday, 27 January 2016 at Hotel Leela in Mumbai from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The aim of this summit is to provide a single platform for employers and UK graduates to establish direct contact and explore scope of employment. The participating graduates will include a mix of recently returned UK undergraduates, postgraduates and experienced UK alumni.
More than 15 reputed companies including Shell, Reliance Broadcast Limited, Bharti AXA, Crossword Bookstores Ltd will participate in the summit. The companies from diverse industries will offer UK graduates exciting and challenging full-time employment opportunities across sectors including Financial, Oil and Gas, BFSI, Humanitarian, Retail, Telecom, Technology, Ecommerce and healthcare solution sector.
Commenting on the initiative, Sharon Memis, Director West India, said, “The British Council’s Career Summit in Mumbai will connect talented young Indians who are new or recent graduates from UK universities with top employers in India who are looking to build their talent pool. We support students throughout their journey with us, from the first moment they consider studying in the UK, through the application process until departure. We wanted to continue that support on their return to India so we decided to hold career summits to help connect our fantastic alumni with some great employers. With several hundred interviews already set up, we hope some of our UK university alumni will land an exciting job! We wish them luck! “
The Delhi edition of ‘UK-India Career Summit’ in December 2015 saw an overwhelming response from UK graduates, who travelled from different cities of India to be a part of this initiative. The job fair witnessed participation from more than 500 UK graduates, who utilised this opportunity to give interviews and interact with leading corporates in India.
The British Council launched the India Employability Survey Report in 2014, providing insights into emerging employability trends to help universities prepare graduates for opportunities in an increasingly globalised world. The research highlighted the hiring trends, recruitment of foreign university graduates, preferred source countries for university graduates, qualifications and disciplines of study. It clearly showed that hiring foreign university graduates are an integral part of the talent strategy for a large percentage of companies. Over 60% of firms hire only from the global top-50 universities, of which close to a third hire only from the world’s ten best institutions. In addition, a very substantial 41% of all companies have hired at least one foreign university graduate in the last two years.
As organisations strive to compete and drive business growth in an increasingly global marketplace, they place significant importance on international education in the talent they recruit. UK-educated international graduates achieve markedly higher average salaries in their home country: those returning to India achieve an average starting salary of £13,214 as opposed to £4,394. [1]

A recent QS global survey of 27,000 graduate employers showed that UK degrees are highly valued by employers worldwide. Moreover, in this survey, graduates from Oxford and Cambridge were rated as the most employable in the world, while London School of Economics, Imperial College London and the University of Manchester all made it to the top ten.
