Ricoh's PICASSO Honored with Frost & Sullivan Award for Medical Imaging Technology Innovation
The award acknowledges Ricoh's innovative solution, PICASSO, which is likely to benefit both doctors and patients

Mumbai, Maharashtra, India

Ricoh India Ltd., a leading company in the field of Imaging Solutions and IT Services in India, announced on 9th October 2015 that their solution PICASSO has been awarded the ‘2015 India Medical Imaging Technology Innovation Award’ by Frost & Sullivan.

The Technology Innovation Award was conceptualized by Frost & Sullivan to encourage innovation in the field on healthcare in India. It is bestowed on a company that has carried out research for the development of a specific innovative technology that has or is expected to bring significant contributions to the industry in terms of adoption, change, and competitive posture. This award recognizes the quality and depth of a company’s research and development program as well as its vision and risk-taking approach to undertake such an endeavor.

Ricoh has won the award in the ‘Technology Innovation’ category as PICASSO is an innovation to make the lives of patients and hospitals easier. It is a unique solution that encompasses information technology, document management, storage, and printing medical images.

The current adoption of IT in Healthcare has been very low and it is even lower in the small and medium-size business (SMB) and Mid-segment in Tier-II and Tier-III category. To overcome the main barrier, which is cost, PICASSO was introduced for the healthcare industry as it helps in reducing cost by eliminating the need for medical image printing and is eco-friendly, as well. PICASSO is a web-based multi-specialty cloud-enabled Picture Archival Communication System (PACS). It provides anytime, anywhere access to Medical Images, enabling both doctors and patients to access images on any mobile device such as Cell phones, Tablets, or Laptops. This significantly reduces the turnaround time and, hence, positively impacts the treatment of a patient. It provides the patient with an online archive of their medical images just like their medical records. It can also be seamlessly integrated with any medical equipment, existing Hospital Information System (HIS), or Radiology Information System (RIS) to ensure a streamlined workflow.

Apart from this, Ricoh has recently launched several revolutionary solutions such a DICOM plain paper print, for printing medical images on a plain-paper. The solution helps to reduce cost by at least 40 percent and is eco-friendly, too, as it replaces dry films. Additionally, it has also come up with Hospital in a Box, a format through which all IT needs of a hospital, including hardware, software, applications, networking, storage, and manpower are being taken care by Ricoh.

“Ricoh is committed to advancing healthcare and becoming the one-stop shop solution provider for all the transformational needs of healthcare delivery. I am sure India will embrace such technologies to bridge the current gap in healthcare infrastructure, reduce cost to the patient and improve the quality of care,” said Manoj Kumar, Managing Director and CEO, Ricoh India Ltd. “Ricoh, globally, recognizes that healthcare is a very important social sector for any economy and has a strong mandate to invest in this sector aggressively. Being responsible corporate citizens, we run our business in a sustainable manner to benefit our many stakeholders,” he added.

Congratulating Ricoh India on the award, Mr. Jayant Singh, Director, Healthcare Practice, Frost & Sullivan said, “Ricoh India has always been at the vanguard of innovation. With its new medical imaging and documentation solution, PICASSO, Ricoh India has expanded its Healthcare portfolio by providing a one-stop solution for doctors and patients. PICASSO will create a centralized repository, which will lead to better documentation and flow of patient information. It will craft an entirely new eco-system that will be extremely agile, flexible, and cost-effective. Their success is a combination of an innovative portfolio, focused execution, and fulfilled unmet needs of patients.’’
