Samsung India and Govt. of Bihar Sign MOU to set up Samsung Technical School at Women's ITI, Patna
Samsung Technical School will train young women with industry-ready skills to service consumer electronic products and mobile phones

Patna, Bihar, India

Samsung India Electronics today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Directorate General of Employment and Training, Labour Resource Department, Government of Bihar, to set up a Samsung Technical School at the Women’s Industrial Training Institute (ITI) Digha in Patna.

The MOU was signed by Mr. Dulal Chandra Goswami, Hon’ble Minister for Labour Resources, Government of Bihar and Mr. Rajiv Mishra, Vice President, Samsung India Electronics. The Samsung Technical School at the Women’s ITI Digha will support Bihar’s efforts to tap the opportunities in the growing consumer electronics and mobile phone segments in the country by creating a pool of talented manpower.

Samsung Technical School is an effort under Samsung’s corporate social responsibility in India and offers youth a chance to gain industry-ready skills for employment. Through this program, Samsung aims to support the government’s vision to make India global manufacturing hub, by addressing the need for talented manpower with practical know-how and relevant industry experience.

The Technical School will run Samsung’s Advanced Repair and Industrial Skills Enhancement (A.R.I.S.E.) program, providing students trade-specific training on various aspects of repair and troubleshooting for consumer electronics products such as mobile phones, televisions, home theatres and home appliances. Students will also get real-time work experience at Samsung authorised service centres and training on soft skills so they can provide exemplar customer service.

Mr. Dulal Chandra Goswami, Minister, Labour Resources Department, Government of Bihar, said, “The Labour Resources Department has skills training through ITIs as one of its key mandates. We welcome industry collaborations as they are important to give students exposure into the needs and demands of the industry. We hope that this partnership with Samsung sets the stage for more skilled, employment-ready youth to join and strengthen the manufacturing and the allied servicing sectors in Bihar.”

The A.R.I.S.E. training at the Samsung Technical School will last three months, with graduates getting an opportunity to be placed in the consumer electronics servicing industry post evaluation. The first batch at the Samsung Technical School in the Women’s ITI Digha will begin training soon.

Mr. Rajiv Mishra, Vice President, Samsung India Electronics, said, “Samsung is proud to partner with the State towards ‘Make in India’ as part of its commitment to the community. The Samsung Technical School program is a strong step towards developing vocationally-trained workers to support the consumer electronics and mobile phone segments in India, which hold much potential for India’s manufacturing sector. We are confident that the skills students gain through the A.R.I.S.E. program will equip them to find or create job opportunities in the allied servicing sector. We hope many young women join the Women’s ITI in Patna and take up this opportunity to gain technical skills along with industry exposure.”

Samsung Technical Schools are part of a national effort from Samsung to create a pool of talented workforce with hands-on experience. The Technical Schools have been set up in collaboration with the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) and Departments of Technical Education in states such as Rajasthan, Kerala, Bihar, Delhi and West Bengal. As of January 2015, 15 Technical Schools are operational in ITIs and MSME Technical Centres across the country.
