Need for Energy Savings Pushes Indian Hotels to Adopt Guestroom Automation Systems - finds Frost & Sullivan
Integration of energy management with automation solutions will be the next step in this evolving market

Mumbai, Maharashtra, India

The Indian hotel guestroom automation market has gained momentum in recent years due to the rising emphasis on service quality and customer satisfaction in the hospitality sector. Although high initial costs hamper market growth, increasing awareness on the long-term benefits of hotel guestroom automation will reduce barriers and open up a customer base for automation systems in Indian hotels.

New analysis from Frost & Sullivan, Analysis of the Indian Hotel Guestroom Automation Systems Market (https://www.frost.com/p779), finds that the market earned revenues of INR275 million in 2014 and estimates this to reach INR450.0 million in 2018.

“Due to rising energy costs, hotel owners in India are implementing innovative smart technologies that will help reduce power consumption, in turn accelerating the adoption of automation,” said Frost & Sullivan Energy and Environmental Industry Analyst, Suganya R. A push from the government in terms of regulatory guidelines regarding the installation of smart solutions in hotels adds to the demand.

The integration of automation solutions with energy management systems is gathering pace as the need for energy efficiency and energy savings heightens. Heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC), lighting, window blinds and curtains, audio–visual, and entry/exit are the top five automated applications across most hotels.

However, as Indians are primarily concerned about cost, low quality imported products make the market highly vulnerable to price rather than brand and quality, affecting sustainability. Reduced average room rate and low occupancy levels curb revenues, further limiting the acceptance of automation systems. Focus must turn to tier two and three cities as well as non-five-star hotels in order to propel profits back up.

“As India intensifies the spotlight on electricity conservation, the market will draw the attention of global competitors,” summarized Suganya. Collaborations and technology sharing at the global level as well as advancements in technology will give rise to real-time services and widen the prospects of hotel guestroom automation solutions in India.
