The Indian Institute of Information Technology, Design and Manufacturing, Jabalpur (IIITDM), one of the premier technical institutes of the country has conferred Shri Ajai Chowdhry, Founder, HCL with the Honoris Causa Doctorate of Science (D. Sc.). This honour has been conferred upon Mr. Chowdhry in recognition of the significant contribution he has made to the Indian IT industry and thought leadership in the field.
The ceremony was held at the 6th Annual Convocation ceremony of The Indian Institute of Information Technology, Design and Manufacturing, Jabalpur. Dr K. Kasturirangan, Former Chairman, ISRO was the Chief Guest for the evening and the ceremony was also presided by Prof S.V. Raghavan, Scientific Secretary, Office of the Principal Scientific Advisor to the Government of India.
Speaking about the honour, Mr. Chowdhry said, “I have always been a firm believer that esteemed institutes like IIITDM, provide the right environment for innovation and creative thinking thereby fostering leadership in our future generations. It is always gratifying and heartening to receive such recognition from academia. I am humbled by this honour given to me by IIITDM.”
It gives us immense pleasure to confer this degree upon Shri Ajai Chowdhry who having achieved professional zenith has also taken upon himself to give back to the community and is incubating entrepreneurship and start-ups with his experience, read the citation.
As a pioneer and one of the leaders who set the foundation for the Indian Electronics and IT development, Mr. Ajai Chowdhry has earned wide recognition and respect within the industry. In 2011, the Hon’ble President of India, conferred upon him the prestigious Padma Bhushan, one of the highest civilian honours, as a recognition of his consistent contribution in building the IT industry of the nation. More recently in January 2014, he was awarded the Cybermedia ICT Business Award 2013 for Lifetime Achievement in ICT by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi.
In 2010, The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee, had awarded the Honoris Causa Doctorate of Science (D. Sc.) to Mr. Chowdhry. He has also been honoured with several awards and recognitions by the ecosystem over the last few decades including the CNBC Asia Business Award 2010 for the Viewers Choice category reinforcing his vision and leadership by the common man and the "India Innovator of the Year Award" at the 6th edition of CNBC TV18 India Business Leader Awards 2010.
