Godrej Appliances, the pioneer and leaders in the appliances industry, were today awarded the prestigious “Platinum Green Co” certification by CII-Green Business Centre. This certification was awarded to Godrej Appliances’ manufacturing unit based in Shirwal, Pune. CII Green Co Platinum is the highest recognition for any manufacturing company for its efforts towards ecologically sustainable growth. Godrej Appliances has become the first and the only manufacturing company in the country to be so honoured.

The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) has always worked and strived to create & sustain an environment that is conducive to the growth of Indian industry. CII has changed the industry’s nature of doing business and assists industries to do it in a sustainable way. This led to the birth of the GreenCo rating system. The “Platinum GreenCo” is the highest rating awarded by CII to recognize the most “Sustainable” models in the manufacturing and services sector.
The Godrej Appliances Shirwal Plant which has been widely acknowledged as a model manufacturing entity, thoroughly impressed the CII Green Co Assessors who had the following to say: “We are sure that the confidence shown individually & as a team will be sustained and further improvements in the Green Co journey will be maintained, so as to remain at the peak and derive maximum benefits arising out of implementation of additional Opportunities for Improvements. The manufacturing unit situated in Shirwal has a stellar story to share. It is not just the first to be awarded with the prestigious certification but also is the fastest to have achieved and met the criteria required for the certification.

Some of the salient features that contributed towards making the Shirwal unit platinum certified are:
- Achieved Specific Energy Reduction of 56 % in nine years.
- Increased Renewable Energy share from 7 % to 23 % in three years and have targeted to move to 70 % Renewable Energy share in the next three years.
- Besides, there has been a 29 % GHG reduction in Scope 1 & Scope 2 emissions.
- There has been a 22 % reduction in Specific Water Consumption and they are well on their way to becoming water positive by 2015-16.
- The Plant has achieved recycled content percentage of 27% by maximizing the recycled content for raw materials like steel, plastics, glass, cast iron, aluminium, rubber, copper, paper etc.
- The Shirwal unit is well on their target to achieve Zero Hazardous Waste to Landfill by 2016-2017. Have achieved 100 % recycling of Plastic, Polyurethane Foam, Thermocole, Waste Wood, Oil and Paper.
- Godrej Appliances manufactures the most energy efficient and environment friendly Direct Cool Refrigerators & Split Air Conditioners in the country.
- Achieved 100 % RoHS compliance in products as well as manufacturing processes.
- 100% critical suppliers covered under various awareness programs with focus on Water, Energy and Waste, thereby this approach helped us to build a robust supply chain.
- Possess 59% Green Cover of the total unused land on the campus. 95% of the trees planted in the plant area are native & locally adaptive species facilitating the harmonious co-existence of flora & fauna with core manufacturing activities.
