HCG Hospitals, in association with Zonal Coordination Committee of Karnataka for Transplantation (ZCCK), organized a walkathon – “Walk for Life” to create awareness on organ donation.
The aim of this walkathon is to create awareness and educate the people that they can make a change in lives of others, by being an organ donor.
The walkathon was flagged of by Chief Guest, Honourable Justice, Dr. Y. Bhaskar Rao, Lokayukta, which saw more than 500 people participating. Doctors, students, corporates, and public at large participated in the event.
Honourable Justice, Dr. Y Bhaskar Rao, Lokayukta, speaking on the occasion said, " I'm happy to be part of this noble cause. Awareness is the key and activities such as these go a long way in educating and creating awareness on organ donation, which will bring a change in the society."
Dr. Basant Mahadevappa, Consultant, Liver Transplant Surgeon, said, “In India, the number of patients requiring organ transplantation exceeds the number of organ donors. With advancements in organ transplant procedures, the quality of life has increased and people are living healthy for longer years. A suitable donor can help save upto 16 lives and I’m glad to see so many people to have come forward for this noble cause.”
