Maharashtra Becomes Top State in UID


Mumbai, Maharashtra, India, Monday, December 09, 2013 -- (Business Wire India) -- Maharashtra has emerged as the leading State in implementation of the UID program with the highest UID generation. Till date, UID has been generated for 7,67,88,675 residents in the State and it has now overtaken Andhra Pradesh as the leading State for UID Generation. Maharashtra is already the leading State in terms of UID enrolment with about 8.2 Cr. residents enrolled.

The State has set a target of achieving maximum enrolment by March 2014, and is on track to achieve the same. More than 4000 UID enrolment machines are operational in the State to ensure time-bound enrolment of residents. The State Government had taken multiple steps to accelerate enrolment including removing non value added steps like collection of KYR+ data, generation of Registrar packets etc. The State had also allowed multiple enrolment agencies to work under a controlled environment to speed up the enrolment process.

The State Government has envisaged the use of UID for better service delivery, including removal of ghost beneficiaries, ensuring benefits reach the right beneficiary, enablement of direct transfer of benefits into bank accounts etc. This success is another feather in the cap of the State Government, which has already won 12 awards at various national and international forums for the pioneering work done in this project.
