Frost & Sullivan: Evolving Threat Landscape, Changing Business Dynamics, Collaboration and Convergence to Drive Cyber Security in the Middle East
Frost & Sullivan convened the best minds in Cyber Security at The Address Dubai Marina, Dubai, United Arab Emirates
Dubai, United Arab Emirates, Tuesday, December 10, 2013 -- (Business Wire India) -- Increased Internet penetration in the Middle East (ME) has given rise to numerous sophisticated attacks on the IT infrastructure in the last couple of years. Recent malware attacks in the region have put organisations on high alert and, as a result, the network security market is poised for strong growth rates. Threats are becoming more sophisticated after each attack, making the challenge to manage and secure networks even more difficult. To address the emerging and continuing threats to Cyber Security and its changing landscape, Frost & Sullivan, in association with NEC Corporation, convened the best minds in Cyber Security at its Cyber Security Summit 2013 on 10 December, 2013, at The Address Dubai Marina, Dubai, UAE.
The key areas discussed at the Summit involved a changing Cyber Security landscape, protection of IT infrastructure from future threats, efficient and effective ways to protect data and applications, ways to manage security gaps in an enterprise, and bridging the gap between security and operational efficiency. The event targeted key industries like Banking, Financial services and Insurance (BFSI), Government (Ministries), Oil & Gas, Utilities and Telecom.
Frost & Sullivan's Cyber Security Summit 2013 began with an inaugural address by Robin Arthur Joffe, Managing Director - Japan, Frost & Sullivan, who set the stage by sharing his insights on the evolving global Cyber Security landscape and how the most serious security threats faced by organisations today are driven by Advanced Persistent Threat (APT). This was followed by a keynote presentation by Manoj Menon, Partner and Managing Director, Frost & Sullivan, Asia Pacific, which discussed the key areas CIO's should focus on, and further assist them on the roadmap to a clear security strategy. In his keynote speech, he highlighted the Best Security ppractices globally and juxtaposed them to the ones prevalent in the ME.
Speaking about the evolution of technology and its impact on security, Mr. Menon said, "The ever-evolving threat landscape, changing business dynamics, collaboration, and convergence will drive vendors to innovate in order to stay competitive. Sophisticated targeted attacks, growing adoption of mobility and cloud services are the key drivers for the network security market in the Middle East. Furthermore, the growing popularity of convergence of technologies, virtualisation and cloud technologies are giving rise to significant security risks within corporate networks, specifically, banking, telecom, and public sector organisations that store sensitive information."
"It is very important for a CIO to motivate their end-user community to take a personal interest in information security and convince them to develop and maintain safer usage habits in order to effectively protect their corporate network. A four-way approach for any CIO is to understand the requirement, facilitate the process, and motivate end-users, which will lead to a strong defence mechanism", continued Mr. Menon.
Through the engaging Summit, Frost & Sullivan explained that convergence of technologies is likely to drive the demand for advanced security intelligence. Security vendors should focus on Next-Generation Firewalls (NGFWs) devices that will feature added functionalities in one device. Frost & Sullivan is anticipating that security of mobile devices could become a high priority. Over the next few years, hackers are likely to target smart phones for spreading mobile malware.
The Summit comprised in-depth discussions and case studies on Cyber Security management. This was followed by a thought-provoking presentation - 'Introduction of NEC's Security Strategies' by Mr. Douglas Tang, Senior Director for Cyber Security and Homeland Security, Regional Competency Centre - Public Safety, APAC. The concluding insightful dialogue on NEC's Security Solutions was by Mr. Masaki Kawamichi, Assistant Manager, Global Safety Division, NEC Corporation.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Douglas Tang, Senior Director for Cyber Security and Homeland Security, Regional Competency Centre - Public Safety, APAC, said, "In recent years, hackers have become more organised across the world and attacks have become technologically sophisticated. This summit, therefore, endeavoured to address the emerging and continuing threats to Cyber Security and its changing landscape, as well as responding to increasing risk of security breaches and security governance, application security, cloud computing security, and other cyber risks in the ME."
