The summit saw participation of various proficient speakers.

The Indian IT Industry is growing steadily despite the global meltdown in the year 2009. When the whole world witnessed the negative growth, Indian IT industry still managed to register a growth of 5.5%. In the financial year 2013, the industry generated $108 billion revenue, with exports ($76 billion) two times more valuable than the domestic sector ($32 billion). The future looks promising, however the industry landscape is changing each day and as a result a new set of legal challenges are emerging from the new data privacy and protection law, changing business models, social networking, instant messaging and cloud computing.

Speaking on the occasion, PBA Srinivasan, Editor-in-Chief, Lex Witness said, "With the changing state of industry, there is increasing drive towards operational efficiencies and embracing new business models to offer customers a transformed business proposition. However, in order to achieve this aim it is very important to find out some effective resolving strategy to overcome the legal challenges and obligations currently present."

As technology continues to develop fast, laws are bound to become out dated leaving a grey area for interpretation for employers, consumers, legislators and regulators. In addition, the data privacy and protection laws in India, current as well as proposed and for other countries differ. On the other hand, IT contracts are particularly prone to problems as software development or implementation can be difficult to predict and results are not always as an IT supplier or IT customer may have expected. Even the software patents and how they are perceived to impact on innovation is one of the most debated topics after the recent high smart phone "patent war." These patents present significant challenges to app and software developers. Different jurisdictions have different standards to allow ability of software patents, and these standards continue to evolve.

The day long discussion focused on Data Privacy & Protection: Regulations & Organizational Strategy, Legal & Organizational Risk Management, Regulations of different Geographies - A new challenge in compliance, National and Cross Border IT Contracts & Acquisitions, New Paradigm for IT and Technology Contracts, Copyrights and Patents and Licensing Agreements. The esteemed gathering shared their views and opinions on the prevailing global trends influencing domestic industry and available opportunities as well as developing risks.

Summing up on the significance of the Summit, Shyam Grover, Group Editor & CEO, Lex Witness said, "The robust growth rate of the Indian IT sector over past few years can be credited to its expansion into varied verticals, well differentiated service offerings and increasing geographic infiltration. Combined together, these factors have brought our domestic industry on the global map. I am glad that we could bring together so many professionals of Indian IT assemblage under one roof and know the significant developments and challenges of the field from them."
