Brickwork Finance Academy Offers 'Derivatives Session' by an IIM Professor on December 1, 2012
Bangalore, Karnataka, India, Monday, November 26, 2012 -- (Business Wire India) -- Brickwork Finance Academy offers a session on Derivatives, by an IIM Professor, at its campus on Bannerghatta Road, Bengaluru, on Saturday, December 1, 2012 between 1.30 pm to 4.30 pm.
'By far the most significant event in finance during the past decade has been the extraordinary development and expansion of financial derivatives. These instruments enhance the ability to differentiate risk and allocate it to those investors most able and willing to take it - a process that has undoubtedly improved national productivity growth and standards of living.'
. Alan Greenspan
Derivatives are an important class of financial instruments in the financial and trade markets that enable risk protection and enable innovative investment strategies. Derivatives can be classified into different types, on the basis of how they are traded, the underlying asset on which they are based, and the way they are structured.
A thorough understanding of derivatives is however necessary and these instruments need to be used judiciously.
The markets today have many complex derivative products that are not understood completely and are being used to gamble for profits rather than for hedging. This is a very dangerous trend that could lead to major financial crisis in world markets -the financial crisis of 2008 being a case in point.
The session on derivatives will not only provide with a basic understanding of derivative, but will also address complex issues such as their pricing, the payoffs involved and hedging strategies.
