Ecole Mondiale Students Initiate Fight Against Cancer
4.5 lakh raised for cancer research

Mumbai, Maharashtra, India, Thursday, May 10, 2012 -- (Business Wire India) -- "Relay for life" is an initiative by Ecole Mondiale World School.This is an overnight relay walkathon for cancer awareness and fund raising forAmerican Cancer Society. This is the first Relay for Life in India.More than 20 countries , including the US, UK and Australia have been participating in the event for the last 10 years now.

The idea of Relay for Life came from Neerav Dharia, Grade 11 from Ecole Mondiale World School. He brought the idea here as he believed this school could start such an event in India and would be successful in École. With the sentiment of " Cancer doesn't sleep. So, for one night , neither will we" 150 odd students , teachers , activists and celebrities in the city participated in an overnight relay walkathon on Friday, 20th April 2012.The group camped in the school premises at 8pm and took turns walking and jogging around the track till 8am the next day. The walkathon included the "Survivors Lap" which celebrated the spirit and entusiasm of cancer survivors in symbolic gestures with lit candles in their honour or memory. The ceremony ended with the "Fight Back Ceremony" where the students encouraged the participates to fight against the disease.

"Relay for life was a thought once upon a time and I am glad it actually happened.The school teachers , principle and fellow friends where very encouraging and supportive. I am happy that Relay for Life is finally come in India.", says 17 year old Neerav Dharia who studies at the school and is also one of the organisersof the event.
