Electronics For You aims to felicitate the leading brands in the Indian electronics industry who have acted as catalysts in furthering the growth of the Indian electronics industry

Bangalore, Karnataka, India, Thursday, March 15, 2012 -- (Business Wire India) -- EFY Awards 2011, Electronics For You's (EFY's) annual initiative to honour leaders in the electronics industry, will be announced tomorrow at Le Meridien Hotel, Bengaluru. These awards will be presented across 27 product categories to brands voted by the readers of EFY and Electronics Bazaar magazines. The awards also consist of three special categories, selected by a jury of six members.

Ever since its inception in 2004, the aim of EFY Awards has been to motivate, support and recognise outstanding brands, organisations and individuals who have acted as catalysts in furthering the growth story of the Indian electronics industry. The awards have evolved with time in response to the demands of and suggestions received from the stakeholders of the Indian electronics ecosystem and our numerous readers.

"To keep up with the changes in industry and the products churned out by it, the products for which the awards are announced are reviewed every year and changed as per requirement. However, this year we have made drastic changes in the product categories by substituting the consumer electronics and IT products with core electronics products, which are more relevant to the industry catered to by EFY, a premier publishing group for the electronics industry. But the total number of awards has been kept more or less the same," says Ramesh Chopra, founder and vice chairman of EFY Group. The new product categories that have been added for the Readers' Choice Awards are SMT pick and place, EMS firm, LEDs, LED drivers, programmable logic controllers (PLCs) and sensors and transducers.

Some of the nominees in these new categories of awards are Dixon, Jabil and SGS Tekniks under the category EMS firms; ASM Assembly Systems/SIPLACE, Assembleon, Fuji, Yamaha and Juki under the SMT pick and place category; Philips, CREE, Nichia, Edison and Osram under LEDs; and Texas Instruments, STMicroelectronics, Benstar, Siemens and CMC (China) under LED drivers.

Methodology

As the title of the awards indicates, the nominees and winners of EFY Readers' Choice Awards for the product categories are selected on the basis of voting by the readers of EFY. The votes are collated to assess the Top 5 Brands and then the winner amongst them is selected on the basis of the most popular brand voted. The respondents vary across segments-mainly from the electronics industry, professionals and even associations representing different segments of electronics. In case of a tie between two brands for the same award, the case is referred to the jury, and the winner is selected on the basis of their final vote.

In case of EFY Jury Awards, the jury is instrumental in deciding the winners for the special categories-Electronics Man of the Year, Electronics Organisation of the Year and Lifetime Achievement Award. Here, the jury nominates individuals or organisations for the awards, and then a winner is selected through consensus after discussion or through voting. This year the jury comprises Dr Ajay Kumar, joint secretary, DIT, Government of India, Rajoo Goel, secretary general, ELCINA, Debashish Choudhury, president, SEMI, RC Chopra, advisor, CII, NK Goyal, president, CMAI, and Uma Reddy, president, CLIK.

It has, therefore, been decided to announce their dates now a year in advance so that those interested may mark the next date in their calendar.
