This was followed by insightful workshops/sessions on Imperative and Ethics of Photo Journalism. On the second day, there were two workshops. The first was on Photosynthesis - contemporary photography and the second session on Photography and hurdles faced by modern day photographers. The workshops aimed at providing awareness and besides aesthetics sense, they highlighted upon the needs to have a definite level of sensitivity & receptiveness towards the environment coupled with a technical bent of mind, and how photographs should be individualistic too representing the emotions of the photographer. Challenges that photographers faced everyday was also one of the most discussed topics in these workshops.
For this two-day workshop Canon choose speakers across genres. The workshop witnessed sessions by Chaitanya Kalbag, Editor-Business Today, Subi Chaturvedi, a Filmmaker & a media practitioner activist and Dinesh Khanna, an independent photographer, who specializes in travel photography.
The sessions conducted offered an opportunity to interact with the professionals and learn the nuances of photography from them. Chaitanya Kalbag, spoke about Imperative and Ethics of Photo Journalism. While talking about the issues photographers deal with every day, he said "Credibility and responsibility are words that give the right to call photography a profession rather than a business. Not maintaining that credibility will diminish the journalistic impact and self-respect, and the importance of photography as communication." He also mentioned that pictures have tremendous impact and as responsible photographers, images that can offend, shock, mislead, stereotype and confuse should be evaded.
Another trainer threw light on the various photographic talents that exist around the world and how exposure to photography is being accepted by varied strata of society. "The entire world has started recognizing the contribution of Indian photography even in the international arena. Photography is a different art form because it's a mix of technique, technology & aesthetics & without technology; the full potential of photography can't be exploited." Subi Chaturvedi said.
The workshop is one of Canon's initiatives to promote photography as a form of art and expression. Canon over the years, has been conducting workshops around the country on various themes like wedding, sports, wildlife, etc. Canon is a leader in photography and offers exciting ways to enjoy photography and bring out the best creative skills in photo enthusiasts and professionals alike.
