Suneeta Reddy extends her Support to Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign
As part of the Oncology COE commitment, Apollo Cancer Institutes organise the Breast Cancer Campaign

New Delhi, Delhi, India, Saturday, October 22, 2011 -- (Business Wire India) -- Suneeta Reddy, Joint Managing Director, Apollo Hospitals, has been actively working towards spreading Breast Cancer Awareness and contributing to the Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign initiated by Apollo Hospitals in association with the Times of India.

The campaign aims to raise consciousness of the disease and reduce the stigma around the disease by educating people about its symptoms and treatment options. The purpose of this campaign is to raise the society's "brand awareness" for breast cancer, its detection, its treatment, and need for a reliable, permanent cure.

While extending her full support to the campaign, Ms Suneeta Reddy, Joint Managing Director, Apollo Hospitals, said, "Creating breast cancer awareness in society is the most crucial course of action in our collective fight against breast cancer. This can go a long way in saving the lives of breast cancer patients."

The campaign urges women to go for monthly breast cancer check-ups to find out unusual lumps in the nipple or breasts. These exams have saved thousands of lives. Through these check-ups, a woman can get hold of the cancer early and her diagnosis will be much improved to tackle the progression of the disease in time. The awareness campaign educates women about when and how to do these checks.

The Campaign focuses on asking women to have 5 Precious Minutes for Breast Self-Examination (BSE) once every month. Leading oncologists from the country highlighted the prevention and treatment of breast cancer, at the seminar.

The participating units are- 7 Apollo Cancer Institutes and 14 Apollo Hospitals with Apollo Pharmacy, Apollo Munich, and Apollo Clinics. An important detail frequently overlooked when focusing on early detection and treatment in the "Race for the Cure" is the fact that we often ignore one of the most important factors in dealing with breast cancer: prevention. With an epidemic disease such as breast cancer, step one should be to reduce the risk of women getting affected by the disease in the first place. Prevention precedes detection and treatment- is what Apollo Hospitals is endeavoring to promote with this campaign.
