Shell Helix Showcases Rare Photo Exhibit Celebrating Shell's Longstanding Technical Partnership with Scuderia Ferrari
25 installations bring to life glorious Formula One moments dating back to the 1950's
New Delhi, Delhi, India, Thursday, September 08, 2011 -- (Business Wire India) -- Shell Lubricants, the global market share leader in finished lubricants (Kline & Company) tries to capture Shell's shared passion for performance with Scuderia Ferrari over 60 years, at a rare photo exhibition in New Delhi. The exhibition is aimed at celebrating India's inaugural Grand Prix, scheduled in October this year. The 25 archival images in the photo exhibition look back at the heritage of Shell's technical Partnership with Scuderia Ferrari which dates back to 1947. Shell has been a leading force in motor racing and this exhibition gives Formula One enthusiasts a better insight of how Shell Helix has played a significant role in supporting Scuderia Ferrari's success on the race tracks.
Shell Helix is actually the motor oil recommended by Scuderia Ferrari and has been involved with motor racing since the beginning of the sport. Shell has worked alongside Ferrari to produce and develop racing fuels and lubricants that help to optimise performance and efficiency. The engine of every Ferrari, whether it's a road car or racing thoroughbred, leaves Ferrari's factory in Maranello, Italy lubricated by Shell Helix.
Mr. Ian Albiston, Shell's Formula One Project Manager, on the occasion of the Flagship photo exhibition for the inaugural Indian Grand Prix 2011, said, "Shell's technical partnership with Scuderia Ferrari is one of the strongest and most established in the Formula One paddock, dating back to 1947. Ferrari's success also depends on having the most technologically advanced fuels and lubricants in the sport, and so every Shell product in the car is tailor-made to get optimum performance in the Ferrari Formula One car."
Some of the Archival images displayed at the photo exhibition feature Ferrari's first race win by José Froilán González at the British Grand Prix on 14th July 1951, Ferrari's chairman Enzo Ferrari at the Monza race circuit overseeing testing of a new Ferrari racing car on 23rd April 1966, the Scuderia descending upon Felipe Massa's Ferrari F60 for a pit-stop at Spanish Grand Prix on 10 May 2009, Shell Trackside Analyst Mark Farley and Formula One Project Manager Ian Albiston at work in Shell's Trackside Laboratory at German Grand Prix on 24 July 2005 and various Ferrari car models over the years that have participated in the Grand Prixs.
The exhibition also encapsulates some of the never seen before images straight from Formula One tracks sharing in-depth details of technologies used during the races.
Mr. Ian Albiston further added, "We have an on-going technical development programme, where up to 50 technical staff, based in the UK and Germany, spend over 21,000 R&D hours per year working closely with the Ferrari engineers in Italy. As always it is a pleasure to take the technical partnership to new venues and we are all really looking forward to the challenges that lie ahead at the 2011 Indian Grand Prix next month."
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Donald Anderson, Country Head - Lubricants, Shell India Markets Pvt. Ltd., said: "Shell Helix is proud of its longstanding association with Ferrari and this is an opportunity for us to share our decades of magnificent history and experience with Formula One fans, enthusiasts and consumers in India. We are excited to host this photo exhibition that revives the age old memories of our association and will also give an opportunity to all Formula One enthusiasts to cherish the precious moments Shell has shared with Ferrari. We believe the Shell Helix photo exhibition will be the adventure of a lifetime and no one should miss the opportunity to join us in India".
Shell is very proud to have supported Scuderia Ferrari during over 450 races which have seen them secure more than 2,000 World Championship points, over 150 victories and 12 Formula One World Drivers' and 10 World Constructors' Championship crowns.. It's also worth mentioning that while the Formula One World Constructors' Championship was only established in 1958, had it been created the same year as the World Drivers' Championship, Ferrari would have won an additional five Constructors' World Championship crowns with Shell's support.
