The objective of this initiative was to identify and promote more women to take up leadership positions in organizations. This was born out of our basic conviction that not only women are under-represented in such positions but also the fact that presence of a larger proportion of women in such positions will enhance a holistic approach to managing organizations and will enable the organization to be more effective, ethical and socially conscious entities.
Ms. Geeta Arora, Head Human Resources (India), British Council; Dr. Kiranmai Pendyala, Head HR, AMD India; Dr. Sandhya Shekhar, CEO, IIT Madras Research Park; and Ms. Shvetha Jaishankar, Actor and Model participated in the panel discussion moderated by Dr. Lalitha Balakrishnan, Vice Principal & Head, Dept. of Management MOP Vaishnav College for Women Chennai.
Highlighting the various statistics, Ms. Tanya Dubash, Executive Director & President (Marketing), Godrej Group said "Women in management can no longer be an afterthought. As 63% of women are considered to be loyal to their employer and 81% of them consider their work as the top priority." Speaking on the occasion Prof. Bala V. Balachandran, Founder & Dean, Great Lakes Institute of Management said "After years of women entering into the work force and trying to be more like men in every way, it is increasingly being realized that women have some inherent style and advantage that men can also learn from."
Adding to the statement Dr S. K. Shanthi, Professor of Economics, Great Lakes Institute of Management said "In SWIM 2011, with the esteemed panel, we explore if there really is a difference between the traditional and the feminine style of leadership and management.
