Speaking on the occasion, he said, "I am happy to release the magazine, which exclusively addresses the issues of road transport, revenue collection, environmental aspects, and most importantly, road safety."

Earlier, in a message in the inaugural issue of Maharashtra Milestone, Chief Minister Chavan said, "I am confident, this magazine will enable the State Transport authorities to communicate and interact with various sections of the society. I wish the magazine all the success in fulfilling its objectives."

Maharashtra Milestone, the first of its kind in the country, is brought out by New Media, India's largest bilateral trade publishing house, in association with the Transport Commissioner's office, Mumbai.

In his message to the magazine, Minister of State for Transport Gulabrao Deokar described the launching of the publication as timely because the number of vehicles on the road was rising phenomenally in Maharashtra, causing worry about various transport and safety related issues.

"We can look forward to reading informative and educative articles in Maharashtra Milestone that will guide and enlighten drivers and passengers as well as manufacturers and service providers besides all those engaged in providing infrastructure for safe road travel," he said.

Maharashtra Chief Secretary Ratnakar Gaikwad, in his message, said, "It is for the first time that such an initiative being taken by the State Transport Department in its endeavour to create awareness in the public mind about the challenges the Department is facing in today's times of multiple security threats and increasing vehicular traffic."

Appreciating the joint initiative, the Chief Secretary said, "It is interesting to know that the magazine is published by New Media, which has the requisite experience in publishing as demonstrated through the publication of the Protector, the Mumbai Police magazine."

Dr. S. K. Sharma, Principal Secretary (Transport & Ports) described the arrival of the magazine as timely. He said, "New Media's alliance with the Road Transport Department can and will usher a new beginning in communication and articulation of goals, needs and aspirations of this critical sector."

"The platform offered by the magazine will gradually be used by all concerned to make road transport a true lifeline supporting and promoting the thriving economy of this State," Dr. Sharma added.

D. G. Jadhav, Transport Commissioner, described road safety as the most challenging issue that the Transport Department faced. "We cannot accomplish it without the compliance of motorists, manufacturers and the public who use the road transport networks and the roads 24/7. Maharashtra Milestone will be our mouthpiece and guide to bridge the communication gaps and create a feeling of togetherness in meeting the challenges," he said.

The Transport Commissioner said the magazine would act as a binding force "that will connect our Department with the unending stream of varied vehicle owners, manufacturers, dealers, driving schools and instructors, drivers of all categories, hi-tech designers and engineers so that better understanding and communication will result in improved services and sharing of vital social responsibilities and empowerments."

In his message, Satya Swaroop, Managing Editor of New Media, referred to the massive investments going into improving the transport infrastructure and said that road transport "is bound to receive an immense boost in the coming years."

"I am confident that Maharashtra Milestone will strive towards highlighting the best practices of transport management on road safety prevailing the world over", Swaroop added.
