'Planet Earth' Series of Books Launched at the Earth Day Celebrations in TERI
The series covers six aspects of our beautiful environment: Oceans, Deserts, Forests, Mountains, Poles, Rivers and Lakes
New Delhi, Delhi, India, Thursday, April 21, 2011 -- (Business Wire India) -- At the Earth Day function organized by The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) a special series of books titled "Planet Earth" was launched by the Mr. Keshav Chandra, Secretary, Department of Environment, Government of Delhi, along with Dr. R K Pachauri, Director-General, TERI. TERI has been generating awareness amongst the students and youth by celebrating Earth Day since the year 1996.
The Planet Earth series has been published by TERI Press, the publishing arm of TERI. The series comprises six titles: Oceans, Deserts, Forests, Mountains, Poles & Rivers and Lakes. These books focus on our unique and wonderful planet, its breathtaking variety of landscapes and biodiversity, the deep secrets of our vast oceans, which still remain unexplored, changing hues of the deserts and its ecosystem, lush green forests teeming with life; fresh water rivers and lakes, the lofty mountains that have shaped the Earth and its climate; and the icy poles. Exploring our rich and beautiful, yet fragile planet, these books are meant to entertain and enrich young minds.
Releasing the book, the Mr. Keshav Chandra, Secretary, Department of Environment, Government of Delhi, said, 'The 'Planet Earth' series of books wonderfully portrays the richness of our ecosystem as well as informs us about the need to preserve it for our own benefit. As future leaders of tomorrow, it is important to first know and then understand the need protect our environment and TERI's efforts in promoting this message through children's books is noteworthy'.
Human society is making tremendous progress and there is rapid development all around, but this has come at the cost of the environment and this will adversely affect our future generations. Stressing on this issue at the function, Dr. R K Pachauri, Director-General, TERI, said, 'each day some species of plants and animals disappear from the Earth and our rich natural heritage is disappearing. As young citizens, I hope these books will enlighten you on the need for preserving the environment and also encourage you to spread knowledge among family, school, community, and beyond'.
The 'Planet Earth' series is priced at Rs. 930/- and individual titles can also be purchased at Rs. 155/-. Specially designed for children, the books are visually engaging, informative and inspiring.
