JSW Foundation Inaugurates Glimpses of Glory Exhibition
JSW Foundation Believes in Inclusive Growth and Development Process; JSW Foundation Brings to the Public a Walkthrough Exhibition
Mumbai, Maharashtra, India, Wednesday, April 20, 2011 -- (Business Wire India) -- JSW Foundation, the social development division of the JSW group, inaugurated an exhibition -- Glimpses of Glory, in presence of chairperson Mrs. Sangita Jindal on Monday commemorating Late Mr. Anant Pai, founder and editor of Amar Chitra Katha (ACK) comics.
JSW Foundation believes in inclusive growth to facilitate creation of a value based and empowered society through continuous engagement in the development process. The Foundation, chaired by Mrs. Sangita Jindal, works in the fields of Education, Health, Environment, Livelihood, Sports, Art, Culture & Heritage.
Glimpses of Glory is a set of 60 paintings in a walkthrough of what are some shining points of glory in the journey through the ages across the length and breadth of the Indian subcontinent.
The paintings exemplifying these glorious moments have been picked jointly by Late Mr. Pai and Mr. Dilip Kadam, eminent painter and illustrator. The exhibition commenced on April 18th 2011 and will continue till May 1st, 2011, showcasing Uncle Pai's collection of paintings, illustrating India's legacy across different disciplines.
Mrs. Sangita Jindal, Chairperson, JSW Foundation said, "Our history is our heritage. It tells us about our glorious past and lights up our future. Glimpses of Glory helps us remember that past through beautiful illustrations. Let us all do our bit to preserve and nurture it." JSW Foundation strives to achieve sustainable development in all spheres of life including integrated community development, promotion of arts and culture, environment protection, and, sports.
The exhibition -- Glimpses of Glory we get to see Indian mastery in political thought, conservation, scientific inquiry, art, architecture, language and literature.
Speaking on the occasion Mrs. Shabana Azmi said, "I am happy to be a part of this event and would like to take this opportunity to thank Sangita Jindal for inviting me. All of us have grown up reading Amar Chitra Katha, and it's a pleasure to see these wonderful paintings that remind us of our rich heritage. I would like to encourage everyone, especially today's generation, who can be ignorant towards India's legacy, to visit this exhibition. It is sure to help them become more aware."
Mr. Pai aka "Uncle Pai", was extremely concerned about the fact that Indians seemed to know very little about their tradition, culture, heritage or mythology and were wooed by British and American comics. With the endearing support of his wife, Mrs. Lalitha Pai, he created Amar Chitra Katha bearing that in mind. His collection of paintings at Glimpses of Glory is a colourful depiction and expression of his message to those who are unaware.
Today, when India is making giant strides towards economic and social progress, it becomes even more imperative for us to know and imbibe our heritage. While Indian religions, yoga and Indian cuisine have a profound impact all around the world, the Indian legacy is something that goes way beyond any of these elements.
The chief guest at the event was leading actor, cinema personality and social activist, Shabana Azmi. Ms Azmi launched the event by lighting the inaugural lamp along with members of a distinguished panel including Mrs. Sangita Jindal, Chairperson of JSW Foundation, Mrs. Lalitha Pai, wife of Late Mr. Anant Pai and Dr. A.P. Jamkhedkar noted archeologist.
