9.9 Media's CFO100 - Peers Honour Nation's Best CFOs
Mumbai, Maharashtra, India, Thursday, April 07, 2011 -- (Business Wire India) -- In a first of its kind honour for Chief Financial Officers in India, 100 CFOs across industries were recognised for their work in various areas of finance in 2010. The event, titled: CFO100 - recognising the winning edge, was organised by 9.9 Media that brings out CFO India, the country's most read magazine for senior finance professionals. The CFOs were chosen from the over 200 nominations received, by a panel of eminent jury members that included Director- HR & ENR of Infosys Mr T V Mohandas Pai, Vice Chairman of TVS Capital Ltd Mr D Sundaram, CEO of ICAN Investment Advisors Mr Anil Singhvi, Director at Tata Sons Mr J J Irani and Chairman and CEO of Halcyon Group Mr Narayan K Seshadri.
Held at Vivanta by Taj in Mumbai on March 15, the ceremony was attended by over 150 CEOs, CFOs and guests. The CFO100 Roll of Honour was an effort to recognise the top 100 senior finance professionals in India who made a difference to their organisations and for the finance community at large, with their acumen, attitude and energy throughout 2010. Each of the 100 honourees were presented with a roll of honour for their contribution to the fields of corporate governance, risk management, green initiatives, collaboration, raising capital, strategy, use of technology, mergers & acquisitions and growth.
The event also saw 15 iconic corporate leaders being inducted into the first ever CFO India Hall of Fame for their lifetime contribution to the field of finance. Each of those honoured - some of the most respected names from the world of finance - were recognised for having led the way and shaped the finance profession over the years, but most importantly, for having mentored and guided today's emerging finance leadership.
They included Mr Mohandas Pai of Infosys, Mr Suresh Senapaty of Wipro, Mr YM Deosthalee of L&T, Mr Bharat Doshi of M&M, Mr S Mahalingam of TCS, Mr Partho Datta of the Murugappa Group, Mr Hari Mundra, former Joint MD of Essar Oil, Mr D Sundaram of TVS Capital, Mr Anil Singhvi of ICAN Investment Advisors, Mr Ishat Hussain of Tata Sons, Mr Praveen Kadle of Tata Capital, Mr Akhil Gupta of Bharti Enterprises, Mr S.V Narasimhan of IOC, Mr B Hariharan of Avantha Group and Mr K Vaidyanath, the former ED and CFO of ITC. The chief guest for the felicitation ceremony, former SEBI chairman Mr M Damodaran, handed over the certificates.
Welcoming guests to the evening session, founder and managing director of 9.9 Media Dr Pramath Raj Sinha explained the process through which the jury had selected the 100 honourees from the over 200 nominations received.
Earlier in the day, a little after noon, former Union Disinvestment Minister and legendary journalist Dr Arun Shourie set the tone for the event in his opening address by urging CFOs to choose the path of morality and ethics over the search for quicker profits to please their bosses, which often meant compromising with integrity and bending laws. He recounted the story of the ancient Greek economist Demosthenes to impress upon the power-packed gathering of CFOs from across India, the need to never compromise on one's values.
Former Bank of Baroda Chairman Dr Anil Khandelwal spoke about how CFOs make great leaders and potential CEOs and highlighted leadership qualities needed to become a CEO. Other speakers included C.N Ram, president and CIO of the Essar group who spoke on what CIOs expect from CFOs and Devdutt Pattanaik, the Chief Belief Officer at Future Group, who mesmerised the audience with his talk on how the epics and mythology clearly showed finance leaders the way forward.
Earlier talking about the first CFO100 event, editor and founding director of CFO India, Ms Anuradha Das Mathur said the CFO100 was an effort to bring untold stories to the fore and pay tribute to the incredible work being carried out by our finance leaders. This would be an annual event from now on and would get even bigger and better in the years to come.
