IDFC Data Center First in India to be Certified Energy Efficient 'green' Data Centre by TÜV Rheinland
Mumbai, Maharashtra, India, Thursday, February 17, 2011 -- (Business Wire India) -- IDFC data center is the first in India to be certified as "energy efficient" by TÜV Rheinland, a German group that documents the safety and quality of business and technology systems to establish sustainability in social and industrial development. To date, this is the only Data center that has received this certification in India. Auditing and certification are performed on the basis of criteria developed by TÜV Rheinland. Mr Enrico Ruhle, Managing Director TÜV Rheinland said 'The IDFC data center is the first in India to receive the premium "Energy-efficient IT centre" certificate from us after fulfilling internationally acknowledged key performance indicators, like Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) and the carbon footprint. We also assessed the energy management system's status and its embedding in the quality management system of the data center'. The "Energy Efficient Data Center" certificate confirms that tools and methods for monitoring and analyzing are being used and that they are constantly contributing to improved use of energy.
'Specifically the IDFC data center was recognized for the use of advanced technologies, for monitoring energy consumption which also helped IDFC score high in the areas of quality assurance, management and climate control' added Mr E Bobson, Country Head - Business Risk Management Services, TÜV Rheinland
A large proportion of energy consumption in data centers is caused by the cooling of server systems. Using an architectural separation of hot and cold aisles, temporary partition and increasing the temperature based on TÜV recommendations, the IDFC data centers control the cool air to achieve an optimal temperature reduction. This helped significantly reduce consumption levels.
'The ecologically and financially sustainable operation of the IDFC data centers was also enhanced by the consistent use of virtualization, latest and energy certified equipment etc. In this way the company was able to reduce the costs for hardware, space and energy consumption considerably. The certification by TÜV Rheinland is an important step for IDFC toward achieving its sustainability and social responsibility objectives.' added Mr V C Kumanan, Senior Director - Information Technology.
