"GROHE Jal Academy" Successfully Completes One Year of Education Program in India
New Delhi, Delhi, India, Wednesday, February 02, 2011 -- (Business Wire India) -- Grohe AG, Europe's largest and the world's leading single-brand manufacturer and supplier of sanitary fittings, celebrated the 1st year completion of operations of its CSR project "GROHE Jal Academy" in India. The project was undertaken as a CSR initiative of Grohe AG in India wherein complete support was extended to the Don Bosco Centre for Learning in Kurla, Mumbai for the purpose of educating underprivileged youth and training them as qualified sanitary fittings installers. The state-of-the-art academy has trained and certified 156 students in its Level 1 course to date since its inauguration in November 2009 and all of them are gainfully employed.
Speaking of the new CSR initiative adopted by Grohe, Mr. Mathew Job, VP & MD of Grohe India Pvt. Ltd had said, "Through this CSR initiative we further highlight our commitment to good governance, social responsibility and our drive to create and increase value for all stakeholders. The primary objective of Grohe Jal Academy will always be to provide young people with educational opportunities that will open doors for them professionally. Through the academy we aim to provide high standard training which adheres to Grohe's German parentage and world renowned brand principles. Apart from providing quality training and practical experience in the field the "Grohe Jal Academy" is a project which will support sustainable and cost-effective ways of preserving the environment."
Mr. Job added, "India, being a fast growing market for the plumbing industry, is increasingly in need of professionally trained and knowledgeable plumbers. As a step towards contributing to this field, the Grohe Jal Academy hopes to train over 900 technicians spanning a period of 5 years, making it a "win-win" deal for both the Indian youth as well has the burgeoning plumbing market."
At Grohe Jal Academy plumbers undergo the regimens of a structured course which has helped them acquire a different professional as well as personal dimension and also enabled them to be considered as potential talent both by the industry and commercial centres alike. The well-defined course has also lent an edge to individuals wishing to make their mark as entrepreneurs.
The academy was inaugurated by Mr. Michael Mager, Head of Human Resources, Grohe AG, in November 2009 who was also the project instigator. Mr. Mager recently traveled to India with 11 other delegates from Germany to participate in an Exposure and Dialogue Program in correspondence to the GROHE JAL Academy. The Exposure and Dialogue Program Association (EDP) is a non-profit organization that works in co-operation with a number of different partners including the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development.
The EDP program participants spent four days living, working and sleeping in the slums to gain insight into the lives of the poorest members of society. For Michael, this meant living in a "house" around 10 square meters with seven other people - without a toilet nearby and unpredictable water supply. After their exposure to this harsh reality, delegates then re-grouped to discuss their experiences and possible long-term solutions for improving these people's futures.
A day was then spent at the GROHE JAL Academy based at the Don Bosco Institute in Mumbai, where the party - which included members of the German government and German manufacturers - learnt about the successful implementation of the GROHE educational program.
Talking about the success of the program, Don Bosco representative Fr. Adolph Furtado, said "The Don Bosco-Grohe Jal Academy is well on the path to ensure that industry gets technicians of the highest caliber. 2011 has commenced with 23 enrollments; and the current year will also witness progressive and enhanced growth in the plumbing trade by way of a Level II course. Requirements towards this end are in place with plumbing systems receiving the required upgrade; mock set-ups of Toilet/Bathroom/Washroom have been installed with upgraded piping circuits having superior, modern fittings. We are proud to say that the Grohe JAL academy has thus far lived up to the purpose and vision for which it was set up."
