EMC Appoints Niranjan Thirumale as Chief Technology Officer of its Center of Excellence in India


Bangalore, Karnataka, India, Thursday, November 18, 2010 -- (Business Wire India) -- EMC Corporation, the world leader in information infrastructure solutions, today announced that it has appointed Niranjan Thirumale as Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of the EMC India Center of Excellence (COE). In this role, Niranjan will incubate advanced research and technology development projects within the India COE and raise the technical capabilities of the organization by working closely with Sarv Saravanan, Vice President & Managing Director, EMC India COE, and other local business unit leaders to further develop the innovative culture within the COE. He'll also work with EMC's Office of the CTO, led by Jeff Nick, EMC Senior Vice President and Corporate CTO, on global technology initiatives at the India COE such as university research collaborations through the EMC Innovation Network. Niranjan also will become a member of EMC's CTO council.

Prior to joining India COE, Niranjan had worked at NetApp where he was the founding member and technical leader of its Advanced Technology Group in India and was responsible for driving innovation, long-term vision. He also worked at IBM for over eight years in the US. At work, Niranjan enjoys the challenge of solving tough problems, setting and driving long-term agendas.

Niranjan is an Engineer in Computer Science from IIT, Chennai. He also holds an MS Degree and Ph.D (in File Systems) from State University of New York at Stony Brook. He is married and has a seven year old son. In his free time he enjoys dabbling in "street" photography. He has recently started to learn the classical guitar and enjoys a game of tennis.
