Ullas Trust Touches the 25,000 Mark
Awards scholarships to over 2000 young achievers from 241 schools
Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India, Thursday, August 26, 2010 -- (Business Wire India) -- Ullas Trust celebrated its 13th Annual Workshop at the Kamaraj Memorial Hall on August 21, 2010 where over 2,000 Ullas Achievers from Tamil Nadu participated in the "Can Do It" workshop and were awarded Ullas Young Achievers Scholarships.
Continuing its unrelenting endeavor of recognizing academic excellence in students from Corporation, Government and Government aided schools, the Ullas Trust awarded scholarships to students from across 176 schools in Chennai and 65 schools from all 32 districts headquarters of Tamil Nadu. In addition to that, 200 students were awarded Higher Education Scholarships for pursuing professional courses.
A humble initiative which started in 1997 with just 32 children has today turned into a revolution of sorts. So far, Ullas Trust has awarded 25,000 scholarships to students in schools across Chennai and all districts of Tamil Nadu, seven districts of Andhra Pradesh including Hyderabad and cities of Mumbai and Delhi. Polaris associates plan to take this to the grass-root level so that the Trust can achieve its goal of One Student One Mentor.
Speaking at the 13th Annual Ullas Workshop Mr. Arun Jain, Chairman and CEO, Polaris Software Lab, said, "It is a great moment for the entire Polaris family to see the initiatives of the Ullas Trust reaching out to over 25000 students. Ullas Trust has played a pivotal role by not only creating Ullas achievers who became successful in their professional and personal lives, but by nurturing these achievers to become torch bearers and mentors for the young Ullas achievers. Ullas Trust is working towards a structured program that doesn't substitute for formal education, but enhances it in such a manner that participants have the additional advantage of communication, technical and personality development skills, that stands them good stead in life."
Polaris associates conduct regular Sunday classes called "SUMMIT" for Ullas students, which will now be conducted on both Saturday and Sunday owing to its huge success. Between Standard 9th to 12th, each student undergoes at least 24 intervention programmes in the form of SUMMITs and Annual Workshops, which not only help them academically, but also go a long way in developing their personality and communication skills. Further, to overcome the issue of school dropouts during mid-school, Ullas Trust supports the deserving achievers from Standard 9th to 12th with the help of Ullas Young Achievers Scholarship and handholds each one of them through their adolescence to guide them in the right direction.
The special dignitaries present during the event who engaged and motivated the students were Honourable Justice Mr. V Ramasubramanian, High Court of Madras, Mr. V Balasubramanian, Assistant Resident Editor, The Economic Times, Ms. Usha Rajagopal, Managing Director, VMS food & Beverages and Dr. Santhosh Babu, IAS, Managing Director, ELCOT. Each of the dignitaries shared their rich personal experiences and emphasized on the importance of education and an attitude to achieve what you want.
