Speaking to the organisers, Ms Jeannette Auyeung, Overseas Director, China Fangda Group Co, Ltd said: “We need help from Messe Frankfurt to reach the global market through its various shows. This is the first time we are exhibiting at LED Expo and it has been a very intensive marketing exercise with three busy days here.”

Mr Lawrance Lin, General Manager, Forest Lighting (MLS Co Ltd) said: “MLS holds 30% of the market share in China. From the Indian market, we expect even better business and market share and with the shifting dynamics led by government policies and budding local industry, we are confident that we can attain this. By bringing upstream, middle stream and genuine suppliers together, LED Expo has made it possible to reach out to a larger audience.”

Reflecting on the consumer insights gained from the previous LED Expo fairs, more and more exhibitors are adapting their product range according to market demand. Mr K Mohandas, Head – Business Unit, Firefly LED Products Pvt Ltd said: “Our participation in the last edition of LED Expo in Delhi helped us understand what the market needs which is why for the Mumbai edition, we adapted our product range. With this important step combined with the serious inquiries, we are expecting to close quite a number of deals through this show.” The company has decided to come back for the forthcoming Delhi edition with three time’s bigger space.

The growing awareness and long-term energy and cost savings is enticing corporates and urban planners in India to make the switch. Dr Vithal Kamath, Executive Chairman & Managing Director of Kamath Hotels (India) Pvt Ltd from one of Asia’s first environmentally sensitive hospitality group, said: “We are looking to convert our restaurants and hotel lighting to LED and the LED Expo is the best platform to meet so many suppliers. Mr Raju Dave, (B.A.P.S.) explained: “We are looking to add LED walls and screens outside 30 out of our 900 temples in the country and we have found a lot of Indian suppliers at LED Expo who can fulfill this need. The show is a good platform to weigh the pros and cons and meet suppliers personally.”

LED Summit sheds light on BIS mandates, driverless LEDs and material solutions

Looking beyond illumination, LEDs are now playing an important role in product designing, tool for data analytics and pathway of information. Covering these aspects as well as new technology and material solutions, the LED summit on 8 May brought together sector specialists to deliberate on the scope, incentives and measures to priorities LED manufacturing in the country.

Presenting new estimates on LED segments and elaborating the ongoing development plans of Maharashtra government that highlight urban and rural lighting points across the city that can save revenues to the tune of Rs. 12000 crores (USD 1.87 billion), Mr Shyam Sujan, Secretary General, ELCOMA said: “India today is at a stage where everybody is talking about LED technology and energy-efficient lighting initiatives. LED Expo itself offered information on so many new product developments. The industry that has already moved forward with LED technology was exposed to new products, technology and application through the exhibition and summit.”

In another session, Mr Sabyasachi Dhar, Dy. Director - cmd3 (SDOC), Bureau of Indian Standards explained in detail the BIS standards and procedures made mandatory by the government to guard against low quality products dumped in India.

A packed house with more than 200 delegates proved that this revolutionary technology can hold strong attention of the lighting industry, policy makers and sector leaders to address energy-efficiency concerns in India. Among them was Mr V. J. Shirole, Sr. Executive Engineer, Electrical Installation, Planning and Design, Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (MCGM) who said: “Right now, understanding the market is of utmost importance and the LED Expo and Summit have been very beneficial in this regard. We have received a lot of important information that we can use into the street-light project announced by the government as well as acquaint ourselves with LED’s to replace the lighting in governmental buildings in Mumbai.”

Delegates also appreciated the forward thinking approach of the LED summit which highlighted promising solutions of driver-less LED lighting, use of G-Plastics and use of polycarbonates as heat sink. Mr Mukesh K Bhanushali, Dy GM – DSM / EE /EC Cell, Reliance Infrastructure Ltd said: “I have visited LED Expo before and the exhibition this time round truly added value to the visit with new industry developments, diverse brands and new concepts in store. One thing that I will take away from the discussions at the summit was the approach of driverless LED and use of polycarbonates as heat sink. I can now take these ideas forward to my end consumers. The solutions available with exhibitors also offered an interesting perspective on the developments in the market.”

The next edition of LED Expo and Summit will be held in Delhi from 3 – 5 December.

LED Expo is headed by the biennial Light + Building event, which will take place from 13 – 18 March 2016 in Frankfurt, Germany.
