The new 100,000-pixel RGB Metering Sensor, leads to greater accuracy. The EOS-1D X is lightning fast, with dual DIGIC 5+ processors providing the power to process full-resolution images at up to 14 frames per second (mirror lockup shooting), while also performing more operations on the images than was previously possible.

Commenting on the launch, Dr. Alok Bharadwaj, Senior Vice President, Canon India said, "At Canon, it is our prime aim to cater to customer's needs, which are constantly evolving to demand better than before. Professional photographers are a part of a vital customer segment for Canon. They constantly demand higher level functionalities and ultimate in technology. It is a big gratification for Canon to see them delighted with new introductions. We are more than confident that they will find this model close to their fantasy. The DSLR category is growing at 100% a year in India and Pro segment is growing even faster for Canon, as we are No 1 in that category. Coupled with ground breaking technologies geared at higher quality output, increased functionality, and enhanced durability, the EOS-1D X has introduced a paradigm shift in what professionals expect from their cameras."

Pristine Pixels with the new Full Frame 18.1MP sensor

At the heart of the EOS-1D X is a newly developed 18.1-megapixel full-frame sensor. This sensor has been designed to offer greater image quality at a per-pixel level. The photodiodes on the new sensor are more sensitive to light than before, making the most out of available light. The efficiency of the on-chip photoelectric conversion process has been improved as well and this coupled with an optimized pixel count allows the EOS-1D X to deliver stunning results in nearly any shooting conditions, by capturing even minute nuances in color and finer details, thereby breathing life into captured images.
All of this, coupled with the vastly improved image processing and noise controlling capabilities of the dual DIGIC 5+ processors gives the EOS-1D X the ability to utilize an expanded standard ISO range up to ISO 51,200, thus making it a more versatile tool in a variety of demanding situations including very low light.

Smarter and faster processing with Dual DIGIC 5+ Image Processors

To cope with the voluminous signal processing requirements of the EOS-1D X's 18.1-megapixel full-frame sensor and continuous shooting speed of 14 fps (in mirror lockup shooting) and 12 fps JPEG+RAW in normal shooting, it has been equipped with Dual DIGIC 5+ imaging engines with advanced computing capabilities. The new DIGIC 5+ processor is up to 17 times faster than the DIGIC 4. Newly developed algorithms take advantage of the increased processing speed controlling noise better when shooting at higher ISO speeds. Two processors also allow the EOS-1D X to achieve real-time correction of chromatic aberrations for even greater image quality.

Thus the EOS-1D X is faster than previous EOS DSLRs, while being able to perform previously impossible, on-the-fly processing on captured images.

Blistering speed, superb responsiveness

A host of technologies combine to make the EOS-1D X the fastest EOS DSLR ever. Changes to the mirror system (Quad Active Mirror Stopper), a set of next-gen image processors (dual DIGIC 5+), and simultaneous 16-channel signal readouts, enable ultra-fast continuous shooting despite the camera's large 35mm, full-frame sensor. This allows the EOS-1D X to scale up to a jaw dropping 14 fps in mirror lockup shooting, and 12 fps in normal high-speed mode, the latter in RAW+JPEG mode.

At a mere 36ms, the EOS-1D X is also the world's most responsive full-frame DSLR, and this incredibly quick response time ensures you capture the action at the exact intended moment.

Its unrivalled speed makes the EOS-1D X the perfect tool for nearly any photographer, as speed and responsiveness is desirable to all. Particularly, it is crucial for sports, wildlife, outdoor and travel photographers, as well as for news agencies. Capturing the scene at the split-second intended, is a dream come true, and the EOS-1D X aims to realize this.

Innovative, highly flexible AF system

The brand new AF system boasts of 61 focus points, and 41 cross-type points and has been designed to better approach the performance of the human eye. Frame coverage is also 4mm wider than before, and this coupled with the greater density of focus points means more flexibility in composition. EOS-1D X features a dedicated DIGIC 4 processor for metering and AF.

The high performance AF sensor incorporates a number of new technologies, namely the EOS iSA (Intelligent Subject Analysis) System and the EOS iTR (Intelligent Tracking and Recognition) AF. These technologies allow the EOS-1D X's AF system to track on the basis of color as well as face-recognition.

Additionally, metering brightness range has been increased, and the EOS-1D X can track at up to EV-2 i.e. it works in darker environments than before. Some of the cross-type sensors now work with F/5.6 lenses as well, benefitting those professionals who use lighter, cheaper lenses, or for those who use f/4 lenses with Canon 1.4x extenders.

Evolved Metering

The EOS-1D X has a new 100,000 pixel RGB Metering Sensor for more reliable light metering. With a new algorithm that utilizes color and face-recognition data, the metering system is able to achieve consistent results under inconsistent shooting conditions. For example, a situation where a person's clothes, or the intensity of the background, might affect the look of his face is avoided.

Advanced EOS Movie

Already highly-regarded for its high-quality video capabilities with low noise and cinematic looks, EOS Movie takes another leap forward in the EOS-1D X. With the new Dual DIGIC 5+ processor and CMOS sensor's new drive system, the color artifacts and moiré that appear in scenes with fine horizontal lines are drastically reduced. Combined with its impressive low light prowess, the EOS-1D X is able to capture beautiful looking videos, even at high ISO speeds.

Support for SMTPE-compliant time code embedding for labeling individual frames is a new feature. Audio recording levels are now manually adjustable. Furthermore, video recording in P, Av, Tv and manual modes is now possible.

To aid workflow, 2 compression methods are now available - ALL-I compression results in larger size files, but individual frames aren't linked to each other, easing post processing. IPB compression yields smaller file sizes, with linked frames.
To meet the demands of professionals who demand longer duration videos, the EOS-1D X will automatically split files once they exceed 4GB in size, while recording continues uninterrupted.

Enhanced durability and reliability

The EOS-1D X features a completely new shutter unit with shutter blades built of carbon fiber resulting in greater rigidity and strength as well as reduced weight. As a result of this, the shutter life is now rated at 400,000 cycles, a 33% jump over past EOS flagship models.

The tough magnesium-alloy body has a dust proof and drip proof design to ensure seamless functioning even in the harshest of shooting conditions. The dust removal system on the sensor has also seen a redesign - the new system UWMC (Ultrasonic Wave Motion Cleaning), makes use of two vibrating elements instead of one, and is more effective at removing small and stubborn particles of dust.

Even the often-used controls like dials have been redesigned with non-contact rotation detection systems to reduce wear and tear.

Enhanced Storage

Dual CF card slots in the EOS-1D X are also a first for the EOS system. Support for UDMA 7 mode improves transfer rates while ex-FAT removes the limitation of partition size, overcoming a previous limitation while shooting video. Additionally, the two cards can be configured in a number of useful ways, giving photographers flexibility in setting up their storage system.
New user interface realizes improved operability
The EOS-1D X features a redesigned GUI that is more user friendly and intuitive. Attention has been paid to layout of vertical controls, and the buttons have been redesigned for greater intuitiveness. The menus are customizable to a greater extent, to suit a variety of shooting needs.
