Vliv, a mobile video startup, with offices in Santa Clara, US and New Delhi, India, has raised a seed funding from India’s largest angel network Mumbai Angels and a group of CEOs & MDs from well-known technology companies. These include Manish Dalal of Verisign, Pari Natarajan of Zinnov, and Srini Raghavan of Scientific Games, among the others.
Vliv launched its first video editing app Vliv Videofun in September 2013. The app is very popular with teenagers and has consistently ranked in the top 500 apps in the video category for the last six months in the US app store. Vliv Videofun has users in over 32 countries, with majority being youngsters. Vliv is now focusing on the development of a video app constellation that will be hosted on its cutting-edge mobile video backend. Vliv believes that its apps will reinvent the video-based mobile user experience.
“Majority of our app users are teenage girls in the 13-18 year old bracket and nearly 70% of the current user base is in the US”, says Vaibhav Suri, Co-founder & COO of Vliv And so, to capitalize on its growing popularity with teenagers, the startup plans to go global and will soon launch its next video app simultaneously in over 15 international languages.
Pari Natarajan, CEO, Zinnov believes “Vliv will be first of many Global consumer focused start-ups to come from India. Vliv is building a strong mobile video platform that will allow them to rapidly release interesting global consumer video apps.”
Echoing the same sentiment Manish Dalal VP & Head, Verisign Asia says “Mobile and social video startups are attracting a lot of interest from technology-savvy investors and venture capitalists worldwide and Vliv’s talented team is well-placed to innovate in this exciting space”.
