Knimbus Survey Finds Six in Ten Researchers Consider 'Collaboration' Key to Enhancing Cross-Domain Expertise
Gurgaon, Haryana, India, Monday, October 15, 2012 -- (Business Wire India) -- -- E-journals emerge as a critical source for daily research and learning; Blogs rated as least credible
-- Finding relevant information for research and access to it, emerges as a key challenge
Knimbus, a global search and collaboration platform that connects creators and users of Scientific, Technical and Medical (STM) knowledge, today released the results of a survey conducted with over 600 researchers in India to understand research behavior, challenges, preferred sources and the relevance of collaboration in research.
The survey results point directly to the relevance and importance of the Knimbus platform for researchers to find relevant information, collaborate on projects and build peer networks.
According to the survey, 87% of researchers cited access to current and trusted information as the most critical factor for success in their field. Expectedly, researchers today are increasingly accessing e-resources for learning and research - 5 out of 10 researchers use e-resources such as e-journals, conference paper and blogs, daily. The research also points to content considered most credible by researchers to use - 9 out 10 researchers prefer e-journals; 4 out of 10 prefer to use e-books, conference papers and web content. Blogs are the least preferred owing to questionable authenticity, with only 2 out of 10 researchers preferring to access them.
The survey revealed the importance of collaboration among researchers as key to building their cross-domain expertise. 5 out of 10 researchers who participated in the survey strongly support the role of collaboration in playing a vital role in creating research success stories.
The survey further revealed challenges faced by researchers in India, such as:
-- The high degree of effort and time required to find relevant information
-- Lack of awareness about sources to access research and scientific information
-- The inability to collaborate globally with other peers and experts
-- Access to funding for R&D activities
-- Transfer of research findings into 'real world projects'
-- Red tape and procedural delays
-- Low interaction between academics and corporate
Commenting on the valuable insights provided by the survey findings, Mr. Rahul Agarwalla, CEO & Founder, Knimbus said,
"The Knimbus discovery and collaboration platform addresses a majority of the challenges thrown up in the survey. It offers researchers/users in India the power to access trusted global research and connect to peer groups to enable the discovery, creation and sharing of knowledge across borders. Which is why 80% of the survey respondents said they would recommend Knimbus to their peers. In fact, some of the insights gathered through this survey have resulted in features like research connections and researcher profiles to make collaboration easier in the new version of our platform.
The Knimbus platform provides the requisite infrastructure to boost India's research output and address the issue of India having only 2.2% of the global population of researchers despite our large population."
THE KNIMBUS PLATFORM
The Knimbus technology platform offers researchers a single window for real-time search across millions of articles, books, patents. It provides the facility to share articles, tags and the opportunity to create shared projects and build profiles and peer networks.
