New Delhi, Delhi, India, Wednesday, March 21, 2012 -- (Business Wire India) -- Ruckus WirelessT today announced that VIT Vellore and VIT Chennai, India's leading professional institutions, have deployed Ruckus Smart Wi-Fi to support a campus-wide Wi-Fi network, delivering a high-speed Wi-Fi network to over 20,000 students. The campus-wide consists of over 200 Ruckus ZoneFlex 7962 dual-band 11n Access Points, covering new student hostel facilities.

VIT University, established under Section 3 of the University Grants Commission (UGC) Act, 1956, was founded in 1984 as a self-financing institution called the Vellore Engineering College. The campus encompasses over 350 acres, and is located in India's southern state, Tamil Nadu, between Chennai and Bangalore.

According to ABI Research, global revenue from wireless LAN equipment in the higher education space is expected to reach over USD $837 million by 2013. There were major challenges in university's existing wireless infrastructure. The legacy Wi-Fi network could not cater to the huge data demand and user density at the campus. Students and faculty staff had to deal with network availability very often. Also, it would often lead to loss of connectivity as a result of choking of bandwidth. The entire connectivity infrastructure was unreliable which led to a large number of complaints.
