New Delhi, Delhi, India, Friday, February 17, 2012 -- (Business Wire India) -- Electronics For You Expo 2012 , the first-of-its-kind electronics event, has shown the much-needed ray of hope to the Indian electronics industry. The expo has proved to be an important platform for the business exchanges between the electronics industry. Sachin Pilot, minister of state for communications and information technology, inaugurated the 2nd edition of EFY EXPO 2012 ( http://www.efyexpo.com/index.asp ) at Pragati Maidan, on Thursday.

Pilot released a report titled ELCOMAS, which was based on inputs from 540 electronics components manufacturers in India. Addressing the gathering of eminent personalities from the Indian electronics industry, Pilot said, "We are at least a decade late in starting initiatives such as setting up electronics manufacturing clusters in India. There is no reason why we cannot make India the electronics manufacturing hub of the world. Unless the industry itself is very competitive in quality and price, there is nothing any Government can do."

He further added, "Electronics industry should ensure that the components and the products meet quality standards globally; they should not be exorbitantly priced. We have to move simultaneously on all fronts. The electronics development fund is worth Rs 50 billion, which can be availed by the Indian industry." The minister also suggested that the electronics industry in India should work as a unit, which will help the ministry formulate better policies.

Dr Ajay Kumar, joint secretary, Department of Information Technology (DIT), promised to extend the support to the components and said that the government will "work for scaling up the production and provide components at competitive rates." He also said that there are several initiatives lined up for the development of human resources in the electronics sector. Kumar added, "The Department of Information Technology is working on a scheme to provide manufacturers with incentives for setting up testing labs. This will help in preventing sub-standard goods from entering the Indian market."

The event witnessed hosting of another important seminar which involved the electronics manufacturing industry. The seminar Developing Electronics products for India in India- classic traps and strategies for success focused on how the electronics manufacturing can be increased in India keeping in mind the country's consumption.

Delivering the keynote address, SA Srinivasa Moorthy, vice president of design engineering and head of India Design Centre Sanmina-SCI technology India Pvt Ltd, said, "There are hardly any companies that are into hardware manufacturing in India. Most of the companies focus more on software development. We need to change that scenario."

Moorthy also emphasised on various traps into which the companies fall. He talked about traps during conceptualisation phase, manufacturing or support. He said, "Priority should be given to what sells and what a company thinks is good."

"This event brings the entire electronics ecosystem under one roof offering immense business opportunity. It is a one-stop shop for all. Be it the manufacturer, buyer, innovator, distributor or design engineer, this event is aimed at helping them gain maximum visibility and exposure by providing an excellent networking platform. The activities lined up across three days will bring the industry face to face and help foster technological innovations and discover new horizons," shared Ramesh Chopra, founder and editor of Electronics For You magazine.

The expo provided a perfect platform for the buyer-seller interaction. The pre-fixed buyer-seller meetings offered fruitful business opportunities. In all, it brought the entire industry under one umbrella, which is a unique attempt in itself. EFY EXPO is designed to contribute towards making India an important manufacturing hub.
