The Premier of New South Wales to Visit India
Premier to visit Mumbai, New Delhi and Bengaluru with a delegation of leaders from top businesses and educational organizations
New Delhi, Delhi, India, Tuesday, November 08, 2011 -- (Business Wire India) -- The Premier of the Australian State of New South Wales, Mr. Barry O'Farrell, will lead a week-long trade and investment mission to India from November 12th to 18th to increase and promote bilateral ties between India and New South Wales (NSW).
Leading a senior delegation of industry and business leaders to India, as a key strategy in the NSW Government's efforts to rebuild the State's economy, will include meetings with leading Indian government officials, business leaders and investors in Mumbai, Delhi and Bengaluru.
Mr O'Farrell said the 30-strong delegation to India had been built around NSW's competitive strengths in education, ICT, resources, financial services and infrastructure.
The Premier is scheduled to commence his visit with an address at the World Economic Forum (WEF) - India Economic Summit in Mumbai on November 13th, followed by his visit to New Delhi and Bengaluru. The delegation will engage in several business briefings hosted by the Bombay Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Indian Merchants Chamber, the Indo-Australian Chamber of Commerce and the Australia-India Business Council, throughout the trip.
"India is a long term trade and investment target for NSW. With one of the fastest growing economies in the world the opportunities for NSW businesses in India are enormous." Looking forward to his first visit to India as the Premier of NSW, Mr Barry O'Farrell said, "My role as Premier is to promote NSW as a stable destination for investment and to help build relationships for our companies to get a foot in the door of the booming Indian market."
"Our relationship with India has solid foundations through our historical ties in the Commonwealth and our shared love of cricket, but we must work a lot harder to secure the commercial relationships that will deliver economic benefit for NSW."
The Premier will be accompanied by representatives of leading Australian companies, including ANZ Banking Group, BHP Billiton, Commonwealth Bank of Australia, Optus and Sydney Airport Corporation, and Macquarie University, the University of New South Wales and the University of Wollongong.
Mr O'Farrell further added, "We welcome Indian investors and visitors to our State. This mission aims at promoting the profile of our State among potential investors, business partners, tourists and students."
Sydney, the capital of New South Wales, is positioned as Australia's business capital and a leading financial services hub in the Asia Pacific. Led by a Government committed to economic development, the NSW economy is strong and diverse and exceeds the national economies of many Asia Pacific countries including Singapore, Malaysia and Philippines.
