The Institution of Engineering and Technology launches Corporate and Academic Affiliates
Bengaluru, Karnataka, India, Wednesday, November 09, 2011 -- (Business Wire India) -- The Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), a world leading professional society for engineers and technicians, announced the launch of the new Corporate Partner and Academic Affiliate schemes to promote and develop knowledge and skills among engineers in India.
The IET Corporate Partner scheme will support companies and their workforce by giving access to the IET's diverse portfolio of products and services to help maintain knowledge and enhance skills within respective sectors. The IET Academic Affiliate scheme provides a formal platform to increase engagement with students and academics. Life-skill training courses from the IET will help students develop their existing skill sets, which are relevant to working life as an engineer.
"IET affiliations provide a competitive edge to organisations, young professionals and students. The IET supports employees with professional development by keeping them up-to-date with information on courses and events. Employees' professional development fosters a creative and innovative working environment and improves recruitment and retention. In the era of globalization, the IET also provides much needed international exposure to its members and affiliates," said Michelle Richmond, Director of Membership and Professional Development at the IET.
"The IET is one of the largest professional institutions to offer benefits to students as well as working professionals. This will also help organizations and employees bridge the widening gap between job requirements and the skills of graduates. The IET in India works for Indian engineers, solving their unique problems with the ability to draw from its global expertise of members spread across the world," said Shekhar Sanyal, Country Head, the IET India.
The affiliations provide members with access to the IET online professional development tool called Career Manager, which will aid in developing their knowledge and professionalism. The IET also provides opportunities to engage with fellow engineers through local networks in all major cities across India. The IET facilitates local and international industrial speakers on campuses and arranges technical visits to industrial facilities. Organizations will benefit from corporate expertise and technical competence, strengthening competitive edge in a global marketplace.

About IET Accreditation:
In a competitive international market, students and industry are demanding more. Accreditation of your programmes can help you to:
-- Attract the best students;
-- Provide students with a good foundation for professional registration;
-- Meet the needs of industry;
-- Benchmark programmes against other institutions in the UK and internationally
Accredited programmes assist individuals by demonstrating that they meet some or all of the underpinning knowledge and understanding requirements for registration as an Incorporated Engineer or Chartered Engineer. This is achieved through the assessment of programmes against defined and accepted standard criteria.
Why choose the IET?
The IET brings over 25 years' experience of programme accreditation against professional standards for IEng and CEng status and can help you:
-- Across a broad spectrum of programme types, including electrical, mechanical and computing;
-- Improve promotion of your programmes with IET branding and listing on the IET website and on the Engineering Council database for accredited courses;
-- Underpin your programme by using appropriately trained accreditors.
Support is provided throughout the accreditation process along with guidance on how to prepare your application
A number of engineering Universities and colleges from India are willing to apply for IET accreditation. Few of the institutions who have got the IET Accreditation are Amity University (Noida and Lucknow campus) for its key UG programmes and VIT Vellore for its key UG and PG programmes.
The IET is open to provide its full support to colleges and universities to gain accreditation for its degree courses.
