A High Level Delegation from Uruguay Visits the Manufacturing Facility of RRB Energy Limited at Poonamallee


Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India, Monday, March 07, 2011 -- (Business Wire India) -- A high level delegation from Uruguay visited the Manufacturing Facility of RRB Energy Limited (RRBEL) at Poonamallee to explore the possibility of business association with the company in the field of Wind Power.

The delegation was led by His Excellency, Mr. Danilo ASTORI, Vice President and Speaker of the General Assembly and of the Senate of the Republic of Uruguay. Addressing media persons here, Minister of Industry, Energy & Mines, Uruguay, Honourable Mr. Roberto Kreimerman said, "We have identified RRBEL as a pioneering company with strong credentials in the Wind Energy Business."

Mr. Kreimerman further stated that "we are witnessing an increased demand for wind generated power in the country. However, the same cannot be satisfied without the help and co-operation of a sound technical partner. There is a vast scope for co-operation between Uruguay and India in the field of renewable energy."

"This is further aided by the agreement on trade preferences between MERCUSOR countries and India," he added. Mercusor is an economic and political agreement between countries comprising mainly of Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay, aimed at promoting free trade and the fluid movement of goods.

Mr. Rakesh Bakshi, Chairman and Managing Director, RRBEL, while welcoming the Uruguay delegation, stated that "the Company is an ideal choice to source Wind Electric Generators (WEGs) for any emerging economy that is looking towards harnessing wind energy for power generation. RRBEL is presently pursuing an expansion plan, which would enable it to deliver a diversified range of WEGs. The Company is soon going to commence manufacture of WEGs of 1.8MW capacity and is also presently evaluating the possibility of development of further higher capacity WEGs, Mr. Sarvesh Kumar, Deputy Managing Director, RRBEL, said.

Mr. Kumar further added, "RRBEL is one of the leading manufacturers of WEGs in India. The Company is also in the process of expanding its range of blades required for WEGs with the inclusion of the 13M length blade for the 225 KW WEG, in its existing portfolio. The Company currently manufactures the 23M length blade for the 600 KW WEG being produced by it. The Company also recently launched an indigenously developed 40M length prototype blade for its 1.8 MW WEG which is to be commercially produced in the near future.

The Company's second phase of expansion at its existing manufacturing site at Poonamallee, Chennai is in an advanced stage of completion. This expansion involves an investment outlay of around Rs. 100 crore, which is likely to be completed by the end of the current financial year. The completion of this phase of expansion would enable the Company to achieve an overall production capacity of 700 MW during the financial year 2011-12. During the financial year 2011-12, the Company is eyeing a turnover of Rs. 3500 crores.

Mr. Kumar also stated that "while there are a lot of opportunities for sale of WEGs in the international market, the company's main focus would still continue to be on the domestic market as the same is quite unsaturated. The untapped potential in the domestic market is estimated to be around 40,000 MW. The Company expects 20 per cent of its turnover to come from exports in the financial year 2011-12. This would amount to a three-fold jump in exports from the present level which is around 5 per cent of the current turnover."
