Cartoon Network's 'Chowder' Survey Reveals Indian Kids Love To Get Busy in the Kitchen
Cooking Catches the Fancy of Indian Boys

New Delhi, Delhi, India, Thursday, July 09, 2009 -- (Business Wire India) -- Cartoon Network, India's number one kids' channel, continues to cook up a storm of original productions with its latest animated comedy series 'Chowder' that chronicles the magical misadventures of a young chef's apprenticeship in the imaginative and magical city of Dakaarpur.

Premiering on July 13, Monday-Thursday at 4:00 p.m. only on Cartoon Network, 'Chowder' was trans-created for Indian audiences and features a dash of local flavour to spice up an already high energy show. Ideal for family viewing, 'Chowder' is designed to whet the appetite of viewers of all ages - from kids to parents with its colourful combination of imaginative storytelling, phenomenal animations and quirky yet lovable characters.

Celebrating the launch of 'Chowder', Cartoon Network recently conducted a 'Chowder' survey on www.cartoonnetworkindia.com to explore kids' eating and cooking habits. Almost 900 kids responded to the survey from all over India including Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Hyderabad, Pune, Ahmedabad, Kolkata and Bangalore.

Key findings of Cartoon Network 'Chowder' survey:

- Cooking is no longer a girl's thing as 68% of the kids surveyed feel that both boys and girls should learn cooking and 71% of the respondents were boys!

- Indian kids are experimental - 76% of the kids like tasting new food and dishes, 57% of the kids like to know more about food and dishes from all over the world

- Indian kids like Indian food the most! North Indian & South Indian food is the most loved: 31% for each

Bringing out their experimental spirit, 76% of Indian kids enjoy trying new food with 33% of Indian kids preferred going out to eat than eating at home and 57% of the respondents are keen to learn more about world cuisine. The survey also found that Indian kids love Indian cuisine the most and North Indian and South Indian food are the equal top raters in their choice!

Interestingly, cooking is no longer considered just a girls thing as 68% of kids believe that both boys and girls should learn how to cook and this sentiment becomes even more emphatic as 71% of the respondents to the survey were boys!

Commenting on Cartoon Network's delicious new offering, Krishna Desai, Director, Programming, Turner International India Pvt. Ltd. said, "Whilst not created as a cooking show, we hope that Chowder's unabated enthusiasm will encourage a healthy imagination towards food and inspire kids to get into the kitchen more. As a kids' entertainment expert, Cartoon Network is ahead of the curve in identifying interesting trends amongst kids. The 'Chowder' survey findings reflect the views of India's next generation and it is clear that both girls and boys believe in the importance of cooking and food."

When asked what the weirdest food Indian children have ever eaten, popular answers included spicy curry with powdered laddoo, yogurt with chilli powder and dosa with sugar cubes amongst others!

Taking the action and excitement to the digital world, kids can now log on to www.ToonCreatorAwards.com - a fun and exciting online animation contest created by Cartoon Network and HP where kids can have fun playing with their imagination with 'Chowder' characters. Here kids can step into the shoes of a Cartoon Network animator where they can direct their own short animated clips, using 'Chowder' between July 13 and September 30, 2009.

ABOUT 'CHOWDER'

In Dakaarpur City, where Snail Cars crowd the streets and colourful residents' hustle and bustle, the Tadka Laal Catering Company cooks up the most oddly delicious food. And that is exactly where 'Chowder', an aspiring young chef in training, likes to be. Chowder's days are filled with running errands, helping around the kitchen, and learning how to turn some of the weirdest ingredients you've ever heard of into some of the best dishes you've ever tasted. 'Chowder' is perfect for the job, because no one loves cooking or trying new foods as much as he does. He's a sweet, impetuous and a thoroughly gullible little kid, and wherever he goes, chaos usually ensues. He may not be ready to be a chef on his own, but he'll get there one day (if he doesn't destroy the whole town trying). 'Chowder' is a unique and edgy animated comedy series which is created by C. H. Greenblatt, a veteran story board artist at Cartoon Network Studios and the creator and voice of Fred Fredburger on 'The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy.' 'Chowder' is an original production of Cartoon Network Studios in Burbank, California.
