First two matches of 2013 edition deliver 9.5 times more reach as compared to the 2009 edition

New Delhi, Delhi, India, Tuesday, February 12, 2013 -- (Business Wire India) -- The live & exclusive broadcast of ICC Women's World Cup 2013 on STAR Cricket & STAR Cricket HD channels has generated unprecedented interest in women's cricket across the country. Broadcast of first two matches of ICC Women's World Cup 2013 have delivered an impressive reach of 23.7 million (2.37 crore) as compared to first two matches of ICC Women's World Cup 2009 in Sydney which delivered a cumulative reach of 2.5 million (0.25 crore).

Aloke Malik, Managing Director, ESPN Software India Pvt Ltd, was impressed with these figures. He said: "We are absolutely delighted with the response. It is good to note that the ICC Women's World Cup 2013 has garnered huge interest in the world's biggest cricket market. This bodes well for the future of women's cricket. I also believe that the aggressive marketing campaign around the tourney seems to have struck a chord with Indian cricket fans which resulted in these great numbers."

Campbell Jamieson, ICC's General Manager - Commercial, said: "We have always believed that a lot of women support and follow women's cricket in India but they don't necessarily play the sport. In partnership with STAR Sports, we were able to touch and reach that audience as well as advertise women's cricket across the globe. The coverage of the ICC Women's World Cup 2013 has been outstanding with some of the biggest names commentating on the matches and providing their insight. While this level of coverage will go a long way in developing and promoting women's cricket, I have no doubts that this coverage will draw the spectators to the stadia as the tournament nears its conclusion."

Prior to the start of the tournament, sports broadcaster STAR Sports had launched a multi-layered advertising campaign to build interest in ICC Women's World Cup 2013. The campaign ran aggressively across all STAR India networks.
